Hosted at White Bay Power Station, the three-month-long exhibition signifies the ‘intersection of memory and history where recollection becomes an act of reassembling fragments of the past—whether personal, familial, or collective.’ Collated by Amber, Alanna and Renée, this zine tells the story of the observers and stewards of this leading international contemporary art event.

HOW THIS ZINE CAME ABOUT:

"When Amber Liberté put out the call “does anyone want to help make a zine?” Alanna Roy-Bentley couldn’t put her hand up fast enough.

As a graphic designer who’d recently begun co-facilitating workshops about making zines and dreams of becoming a curator in the arts and culture space, the task of collaborating on a volunteer-lead publication about Sydney’s largest art exhibition sounded close to a dream job, tbh.

Renée Appleman, recently temporarily relocated to Sydney from the Netherlands, was on the hunt for a creative outlet, for something that she could channel her keen eye for design and writing that she has honed through her work in marketing - the call to help pulled her in. And with that, Amber had her editorial team."

"We watched in awe witnessing everyone chip in collectively to the idea, no one yet quite knowing what the result would be.

3 months and 206 pages later, we now have complete set of 3 editions that span the full length of the Biennale. What we’ve ended up with wasn’t just a publication, it was also the space around it. Conversations, reflections, friendships, the unexpected generosity of people contributing something small that suddenly feels part of a bigger whole. Beyond a collection of memories, the Voine holds the volunteer community somewhere tangible - and acts a record of all these people who showed up, gave their time, and genuinely cared about what they were part of."
